The bank that
invests in sustainability
We support people who want to take responsibility for themselves. Working at a local level, we help to create the foundations upon which people can build their own sustainable existence.
In 2005, Rabobank began supporting farmers and small businesses in developing countries with its own development assistance programme based on microcredits. We provide financial resources at fair prices, thus making a lasting contribution to the fight against unemployment and poverty. It is done in the spirit of the pioneer of microfinance and Nobel Peace Prize recipient, Muhammad Yunus.
Rabobank’s special expertise is concentrated in two sectors: financial services and the food and agriculture industry. Both of these sectors have a great potential for combating poverty and hunger. Together with the World Bank, the Dutch Foreign Ministry and other development banks, we promote agriculture in developing countries with our capital and know-how. Our development aid is handled by Rabo Development, short for Rabo Financial Institutions Development. It has strategic alliances with partner banks in developing countries, helping them to grow into modern financial institutions. We are active in Brazil, China, Mozambique, Paraguay, Rwanda, Tanzania and Zambia. In addition, Rabo Development advises on projects in China, Malawi and Vietnam.
